Equine-Assisted Learning
At Bella Terra Stables, we believe some of life’s most meaningful lessons happen through experience, connection, and reflection. Our Equine-Assisted Learning (EAL) programs use the unique presence of horses to create engaging, hands-on learning experiences that strengthen emotional wellness, communication, confidence, leadership, and relationship skills.

Science shows that people learn best by doing, and when combined with the powerful, nonjudgmental nature of horses, experiential learning becomes deeply impactful. Through guided interaction with our horses, participants discover inner strengths, overcome perceived obstacles, build resilience, and gain fresh insight into themselves and others. Horses naturally respond to human emotions, body language, and energy, making them exceptional partners for learning self-awareness, emotional regulation, teamwork, trust, and healthy communication.

Our programs are completely ground-based, meaning there is no riding involved. This creates a level playing field where participants can focus fully on connection, problem-solving, and personal growth while building authentic relationships with the horses and one another.
Equine-Assisted Learning at Bella Terra Stables is the core and building block of our THRIVE! programs, Stories in the Stable, Barn Buddies, and our Professional Development workshops.

Our THRIVE! Programs use equine-assisted learning to help children and teens strengthen social-emotional skills in a supportive and engaging environment. Participants work alongside the horses through interactive activities designed to encourage confidence, leadership, teamwork, emotional regulation, and resilience. Sessions often focus on facing fears, handling change, managing challenges, and learning how to adapt with courage and clarity.
Barn Buddies provides children ages 2-5 with opportunities to connect with horses, nature, and peers through guided hands-on activities around the farm. Participants learn responsibility, cooperation, empathy, and confidence while helping with age-appropriate horse care tasks, grooming, games, and creative activities. The program encourages children to slow down, engage with the world around them, and develop meaningful connections in a safe and supportive setting.

Stories in the Stable blends literacy, imagination, nature, and horse interaction into a calming and engaging learning experience for children. Participants enjoy story time alongside the horses while exploring themes such as kindness, empathy, courage, emotional awareness, and friendship. By combining reading with experiential activities and sensory-rich experiences, children are encouraged to build confidence, strengthen communication skills, and develop a love for learning in a relaxed outdoor environment.

Our Equine-assisted Professional Development experiences help teams and organizations strengthen communication, leadership, collaboration, and problem-solving skills in an entirely different kind of learning environment. Working alongside horses naturally highlights group dynamics, communication patterns, trust, adaptability, and leadership styles. These experiential workshops are ideal for educators, nonprofit organizations, healthcare teams, first responders, municipal services, and corporate groups seeking authentic opportunities for growth and team connection.
At Bella Terra Stables, horses are not viewed as tools, but as partners in the learning process. Their ability to foster connection, reflection, and emotional awareness creates meaningful experiences that often stay with participants long after they leave the farm.
